Shafston is committed to preparing students for lives of learning and for the challenges that educated citizens will encounter in an increasingly complex and diverse global community.
It is committed to:
- fostering a multicultural environment in which the dignity and rights of the individual are respected. Intellectual diversity, integrity, and disciplined inquiry in the search of knowledge are of paramount importance
- the development amongst its academic staff of culture of scholarly inquiry that informs teaching and contributes to applied knowledge in the discipline areas in which it teaches courses.
- providing school leavers and adult non-school leavers with alternative pathways to higher education through the provision of programmes that aim to:
- prepare students for the challenges of higher education study
- increase the likelihood of obtaining an undergraduate place
- offer the opportunity of obtaining some advanced standing in an undergraduate programme of choice for tertiary pathway studies already completed
- providing students not seeking pathways to further tertiary study with meaningful ways of enhancing their employment prospects
- entering into cooperative partnerships with public higher education providers to expand the opportunities for local and overseas students to undertake studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in award courses offered by those public providers
- the eventual development of undergraduate courses of study in its own right as a higher education provider
- establishing industry and other collaborative relationships for the purpose of ensuring that its academic programmes are current and meet the contemporary needs of prospective employers
- the implementation of quality assurance mechanisms that ensure its academic programmes and student services reflect international best practice in the field of post-secondary education
