August 01 2006 It’s now confirmed! An already appealing smorgasbord of courses on offer at Shafston is complimented by the inclusion of a Commercial Cookery program. A new generation of culinary artists will have the opportunity of completing their training at the Shafston School of Hospitality.
Shafston’s Executive Director (Academic), Dr Jill Geiblinger, confirms that Shafston is now able to offer this program to international students for the first time. Dr Gieblinger advises that anybody thinking about a Cookery program should act quickly as places in the course are limited and are in high demand. The next intake begins with an orientation program on 30th October, with formal classes from the 20th November. The course is offered as a packaged program which is completed over four semesters. Students will graduate with both a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and a Diploma of Hospitality Management. Shafston’s Marketing Director, Mr Bradley Lloyd, points out that an advantage of Shafston’s four semester program is that it is the equivalent of 2 years of study, but is delivered ‘fast track’ over approximately 16 months. Management at the School of Hospitality expect the course to be of great interest to students looking for a career where their qualifications and skills will be recognised worldwide. And where there are widespread and plentiful job opportunities. In Australia, there is a recognised shortage of appropriately qualified Cookery staff. Following skilled migration provisions, Shafston Cookery graduates have an opportunity to apply to remain living and working in Australia as a permanent resident.
